2013 Achievements
Dear Parents and Guardians of PEPPS
The goals, opportunities, potential and blessings of 2014 await! I wish you and your children a very happy and fulfilling year and thank you for your continuing loyalty to PEPPS.
It is my pleasure to share with you the matric results of the Class of 2013.
IEB Results
9580 full time and 586 part time candidates from 185 schools across the country wrote the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) National Senior Certificate examinations in November 2013.
2013 saw an increase of an additional 621 learners that wrote the IEB examination, compared with 2012. This increase came from 4 new institutions that have joined the IEB as well as from increases in learner numbers at existing schools.
The 2013 pass rate is 98.56%, comparable to 2012’s pass rate of 98.2%. All candidates that passed achieved a pass that is good enough to enter tertiary study at one of the three levels. 85% of the cohort achieved entry to degree study and 12% qualified for entry to diploma study. 1.5% achieved entry for study at the Higher Certificate level.
PEPPS Polokwane College is proud to once again have achieved a 100% pass rate with a 78% Bachelor’s Degree pass (44 out of 55 matrics). 10 of our matrics achieved a Diploma pass, and one achieved a Higher Certificate level pass, thus all matrics may proceed to tertiary study.
There are 125 learners nationally whose performance in the IEB exams is commendable or outstanding i.e. they have been ranked in the top 5% of learners in 5 or more subjects and scored 80% or more in Life Orientation. 4 matrics wrote Advanced Programme English. The Advanced Programme English course has been benchmarked as equivalent in demand to UK A-levels and provides talented learners with an opportunity to explore in depth an area in which they have specific talent or interest. PEPPS sees part of its mission as providing its learners with the opportunity to keep abreast of global standards and test themselves against the standards of our international counterparts. The learners achieved a 100% pass rate in the exam.
It is no secret that talent or intelligence alone does not produce academic success and excellent results in the NSC examination. Such achievement is the result of many years of hard work from these candidates. I must emphasise and give appreciation to the role played by teachers and parents in supporting these young people to reach this important milestone.
The educational experience of PEPPS learners has laid their foundations and placed them on the path to become South Africa’s political, social and economic leaders of tomorrow. Congratulations to the Class of 2013! We wish you every success for the future.
Kind regards,
Leigh Melville
